Maria Milstein is a prize winner of several international competitions such as Città di Brescia, Premio Rodolfo Lipizer in Italy and the ARD Competition in Munich. She received the Borletti-Buitoni Fellowship in 2016 and the Dutch Music Prize in 2018 – the highest award for a classical musician in the Netherlands, awarded by the Ministry of Culture.
Maria performs as a soloist across Europe with the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Essener Philharmoniker, the National Orchestra of Belgium, Residentie Orkest and Phion among others. She works with conductors such as Vasily Petrenko, Otto Tausk, Tomas Netopil, Jan Willem de Vriend and Daniele Rustioni.
Maria recently released both Prokofiev Concertos with the Phion Orchestra conducted by Otto Tausk on Channel Classics. Her duo CD’s with her sister pianist Nathalia Milstein received unanimous critical acclaim. In 2024 the duo will release the complete works for violin and piano by Franz Schubert.
Together with Hannes Minnaar and Gideon den Herder, Maria forms the successful Van Baerle Trio. Maria plays on the Michel Angelo Bergonzi’s “Herman Krebbers” violin and a bow by Léonard Tourte from the National Musical Instruments Foundation.
Together with her husband violinist Mathieu van Bellen Maria runs MuziekHaven, a chamber music center in Zaandam, Netherlands.
